Empty Properties

EMPTY PROPERTIES

If a property is empty or unoccupied, the ratepayer is exempt from paying business rates for 3 months or more, depending on the type of property.

Following this period of exemption, business rates billing recommences, regardless of whether that property is still unoccupied or even part-empty.

Empty rates may be improperly charged for a number of reasons, such as; a new property’s rateable value being entered into the ratings list incorrectly, properties undergoing renovations, damaged properties and temporary occupation prior to an exemption.

We understand our clients’ needs and are skilled at exploring all strategies available to challenge this, ensuring liability is mitigated lawfully and bills are reduced successfully.
